The authority is not satisfied with SKB’s reply to the demands of completion in the judicial review of the license application in accordance with the Environmental Code

On October 2, The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, SRSA, submitted a statement to the Land- and Environmental Court, in which they give their view of SKB’s reply to the demands of completions that has been submitted earlier by the body of referral in the review of the license application to build a final repository for spent nuclear fuel. The authority is not satisfied with the reply and questions the decision of the nuclear waste company to not submit any completions concerning nuclear safety to the court.

In their statement, the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, SRSA, declares that the nuclear waste company has not addressed all questions posed by the authority. And when it comes to the questions that SKB did in fact address, the authority claim that only partial completions were submitted, especially concerning the comparison of alternative methods, such as the alternative method of Deep Borehole Disposal (DBD) and the possibility to reclaim the spent nuclear fuel for energy purposes.

Amongst others, the authority handles questions concerning the method of choice, the alternative method of Deep Borehole Disposal, the choice of location, the so called zero alternative as well as accounting for the Environmental Impact Assessment-consultations.
