The Swedish National Council for Nuclear Waste submits statement regarding completions to the Land and Environmental Court

On October 31, the Governments advisory body on nuclear waste-issues, the Swedish National Council for Nuclear Waste [NCNW], submitted a statement to the Land and Environmental Court based on the comments made by the referral body. In this statement, the NCNW gives their view on what needs to be complemented in the license application to build a final repository for spent nuclear fuel. It is the view of the council that the license application, in its present state, is severely lacking in information. Thus, the council concludes that the license application cannot be trialed in a purposeful way.

The NCNW share the view of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, MKG and Swedish Radiation Safety Authority that the license application must be complemented on a number of crucial issues.

In order to meet the demands placed by the Environmental Code on the environmental impact assessment, the application ought to be complemented in the following areas: long term safety, account and assessment of the method of choice, the so called “zero alternative” and the basis for SKB’s choice of site.
