On September 27, the Government’s scientific advisory body, the Swedish Council for Nuclear Waste, submitted their second statement to the Land- and Environmental Court for the judicial review of the license application in accordance with the Environmental Code. In this statement, the council gives their opinion on the power industry’s nuclear waste company SKB’s reply to the demands on completions submitted in the late fall of 2012.
It is the view of the nuclear waste company that normal legal practice states that preparatory work for the Environmental Code should only consist of a general assessment of issues regarding radiation safety. That is to say that a thorough review of these issues should only take place in the legal trial in accordance with the Act on Nuclear Activities. In the statement, the Swedish Council for Nuclear Waste declares that they do not share this opinion of SKB’s. It is the view of the council that the application should in fact be reviewed in accordance with the Environmental Code as well.
