MKG has translated legal briefs into English with opinions from the review of the application for a repository for spent nuclear fuel

Now you can find legal briefs from the years 2011-2022 translated into English from the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, Friends of the Earth Sweden and the NGO Office for Nuclear Waste Review (MKG) with opinions from the review of the application for a repository for spent nuclear fuel. The legal briefs are those sent to the Land and Environmental Court, the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and the Ministry of Environment.

The nuclear waste company SKB submitted its application in 2011 for a nuclear fuel repository in Forsmark and an encapsulation facility in Oskarshamn. The Swedish NGO Office for Nuclear Waste Review (MKG) participated actively during the review process together with The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and Friends of the Earth. The organisations have sent in comments concerning necessary complementary information and comments on substantive issues. The comments have been sent to the Land and Environmental Court and the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, SSM, that reviewed the application in 2011-2017 and to the governmental review between 2018-2021. On 27 January 2022, the Swedish government took the decision to approve the planned repository for spent nuclear fuel in Forsmark.

In order to make the organisations’ comments more available, MKG has had six of its comments translated, as well as the final oral summation MKG gave in 2017 during the main hearing at the Land and Environmental Court.
