In response to a direct question from MKG at meeting on October 16 organised by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority SSM, the nuclear waste company SKB answered that experimental packages in the LOT experiment have been retrieved – without transparency to any other actors. The LOT test is carried out in the Äspö hard rock laboratory.

SKB secretly retrieves experimental packages that can decide the future of the spent fuel repository
The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) review work prior to providing an opinion to the government on SKB's supplementary information on copper corrosion included support from the reports of three external expert groups. One of the groups was very critical in its assessment of how the nuclear waste company SKB chose to answer the questions raised by the Land and Environmental Court regarding copper corrosion when it rejected the application to build the repository on 23 January 2018.
The complementary information the nuclear waste company SKB submitted to the government in April 2019 on the behaviour of the copper canister in the planned Swedish repository for spent nuclear fuel does not show that the company's license application meets the requirements for permissibility according to the Environmental Code.

Three international experts on radioactive waste visited Sweden invited by MKG and Milkas. In a seminar in Stockholm on May 24th, 2019, they shared their knowledge of the radioactive waste situation in Canada, Switzerland and Europe at a seminar at the office of Swedish Society for Nature Conservation in Stockholm.
On April 4, 2019 the nuclear waste company SKB sent complementary information on copper corrosion to the government. The company declared that there are no problems with copper corrosion and that the environmental court has been misinformed and lacks the competence necessary to have an opinion on copper corrosion issues.
On June 1, the Swedish government gave the nuclear waste company SKB the opportunity to supplement and comment in the on-going government review of the license for the planned repository for spent nuclear fuel in Forsmark.

The date for the opinion of the Swedish Land and Environmental Court to the Swedish government on the planned spent fuel repository in Forsmark has been moved from December 20 to January 23. The reason for this decision, announced by the court on December 5, is the magnitude of the court case.

Prövningen om kärnbränsleförvaret pågår i domstol
Regeringen gav den 27 januari 2022 tillåtlighet/tillstånd till ansökan om ett kärnbränsleförvarssystem. Naturskyddsföreningen m.fl. skickade den 27 april 2022 in en begäran om rättsprövning av regeringens beslut till Högsta förvaltningsdomstolen (HFD) och kompletterade den 27 januari 2023 och den 8 maj 2023. Den 11 maj godkände HFD regeringens beslut. Kärnavfallsbolaget SKB skickade den 30 juni 2023 in ett underlag till mark- och miljödomstolens med begäran om tillstånd med villkor för kärnbränsleförvaret och inkapslingsanläggningen. Domstolen har remissat underlaget och skriftväxling pågår. Huvudförhandlingen planeras till september 2024. Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten, SSM, fortsätter att hantera ansökan i en stegvis prövning enligt kärntekniklagen där nästa steg är att kärnavfallsbolaget SKB skickar in en ny säkerhetsanalys PSAR som ska godkännas innan byggstart kan ske.

Prövningen om SFR 2 pågår hos SSM
Regeringen godkände utbyggnaden av SFR 2 den 22 december 2021. Den 21 december 2022 gav mark- och miljödomstolen tillstånd enligt miljöbalken. Länsstyrelsen i Uppsala län överklagade domstolens beslut om villkor till miljööverdomstolen och fick delvis rätt. Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten, SSM, fortsätter att hantera ansökan i en stegvis prövning enligt kärntekniklagen där det första steget för att bolaget ska få börja bygga är att en inlämnad ny säkerhetsanalys PSAR godkänns.
